Snaps from Peru
North Coast - Archeology, Dust and Seafood
Like all the guidebooks tell me to write, "the North of Peru is often called the Egypt of Peru."
Well, we have (a) lots of sand (b) no rain and (c) pyramids and mummies. Okay, close enough.
There were incredible cities of mud and brilliantly preserved tombs.
Plus friendly locals and tasty seafood on the cheap. It could have been warmer, but the entire
Peruvian coast is pretty much grey, cloudy and surprisingly cold, thanks to the ocean
current flowing along its length. With comrade travelers Pedro and Rebecca, I began a march
that would run us up the coast, over the Peruvian highlands, and (for me) down
into the steamy Amazon basin.
