Snaps from Peru
Huaraz - Suffering & Beauty in the Cordillera Blanca
Huaraz, after Machu Picchu, battles for the second wind of Peru's tourist influx.
A long history of large mountains with snow on them has attracted alpinists from
around the globe. The Cordillera Blanca juts out of the sky behind the fair city;
during the dry season, clouds are nowhere to be seen. But I didn't visit then..
I was lucky enough to experience the "it might just drench you in the afternoon"
season. Many of the shots are on a hike up to Laguna 69, which has one of the world's
most beautiful lakes, at 4700m (15,000feet). Soon to come: the story of how I almost died up
there..
