Chachapoyas - Kuelap & the Ruins of the Clouds

Chachapoyas seems to be the epicenter of ruins-that-are-impossible-to-get-to, so while tourism is increasing, many of the "top" sites are still covered by moss. It feels much more Indiana Jones. And there are bones!! With skin on them!! (see photo below). It also marks the heart of the "ceja" (eyebrow), the wrinkle of the Andes that continues to shelter this area from the Machu Picchu crowds. Many folks seem to prefer the marquis ruins, Kuelap, to Machu Picchu. As I am a bad tourist, I didn't go to M.P., so I can't say for sure.. but it was wonderful, wandering the walls of the hilltop fortress, with it all to ourselves..
