Snaps from Colombia
Cartegena: Colombia's Premier Tourist Trap
Cartegena, twice sacked (once by Francis Drake) and of great
strategic import since the 16th Century,
is a shameful wonderland of well-restored Carribean architecture. In the walled
old city, that is. Around it, like waves in a pond, spreads the rest of a fairly
destitute modern metropolis. Sadly, as cruise ships make an obligatory stop here,
the city is a "colonial gem" as well as a "haven for sex tourism" I cut my visit to
3 photo-filled days of wanderin' in the old city and did my best to avoid the
hooker bars.
