Snaps from Venezuela
Maracaibo & Vaccinations in the Sierra Perija
For many, Maracaibo is the LAST place in Venezuela they'd choose to visit. I
was luckier, rolling in to find some of the best folks on my entire trip -- Geraldine and Heli
-- who lodged me and hooked me up with connections for Venezuela. And, while I was
there, did I want to go into the mountains with a group from the university and help
to vaccinate an indigenous community? Just 3 hours up a canyon, crossing a river 25 times
to the waist, with a group of perfect strangers? The group, CECA welcomed me
much more than I deserved. The community did no less, grabbing the new arrivals and dancing
us in a circle to chants and the shake-rattle of rocks in a coke bottle that filled the night.
