Snaps from Venezuela
The Coast - Mountains and Beaches
The snaps are from one of two places: the Venezuelan coast proper, with palm trees and sand
and snorkeling, and from Henri Pittier National Park. Pittier, sitting smack-dab in the middle
of seasonal migration routes, receives birds galore. Simply exhausted after climbing
Mt. Roraima and flash freezing overnight bus rides to the coast,
I bunked up for a couple of days in the Rancho Grande Biological Research station. Through a friend,
I got a permit to stay, and for two nights, hung out with Ronald and watches some birdies. Rancho Grande,
by the way, can be best described as a combination between the Bates Motel and the abandoned research
stations present in every Jurassic Park movie.
