Cars of Venezuela: Gas Guzzlers in Paradise
Years before Hugo Chavez was a pimple on George Bush's backend, Venezuela was
internationally famous for one thing only: beauty paegent queens. Yessir,
Venezolanas batted eyelashes at the Miss Universe paegant and the world was happy.
Now that the country has become known for cheap oil, I propose that we start a
new paegant that Venezeula will dominate for years: Mr. Gas Guzzler. Prices
recently went up for gas, they are now about 85 Bolivares per liter, or
15 cents per gallon. Let me repeat that: *15 cents per gallon* In contrast
to the atrophied, asphyxiated cars in every other South American country, car culture
in Venezuela is alive and well.
